Hi leland...I too have just started haiku in the last year or so, having done reg. poetry for 10 years....what I've noticed about haiku, the good ones, is there is this last line twist
that sort of heads out into the blue
with the other two lines on its back....very hard to fashion....go look at Basho and others...they are great at that, which really makes a warp jump in the mystery of this short form.....gary (myamberdog)
