It's true that the syllable count is not 5-7-5 but it doesn't have to be. The spirit of the haiku is there. The 5-7-5 count is for the Japanese 'on' or 'moras' which are sound units, and not syllables as we know then in English. So the 5-7-5 pattern is a guideline at best.
